OHIO: THINGS TO SEE AND DO

As mentioned in the previous post, I have been lucky enough to live in a few different states. The next couple of weeks I will post various places that I feel are “must sees” when coming to that particular area. First up is my current home state – Ohio!

I’ll admit it but Ohio is still growing on me. I am still discovering all there is to do in this state so I am sharing only what I have seen and experienced so far. There is much more so if you have been here and have suggestions then PLEASE let me know!

One of my favorite things to do is go to amusement parks. Ohio is lucky enough to have an amazing one, Cedar Point, located in Northern Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. They also have a smaller park closer to where I live, Kings Island, but Cedar Point is a must see!

Admittedly, I only had lunch in Cleveland but I want to explore it more. It is such a cool city! Home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland also has sights like Playhouse Square, West Side Market, Great Lakes Science Center, annnnd The Christmas Story House! There are many other cool spots but just to name a few!

Columbus is the state capital and also home of The Ohio State University. It is such a cool college town near the university. I only had to visit it one time and I almost transferred there! I am not a big fan of zoos but The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a great one! Also check out German Village, COSI Columbus (a hands on museum), and the Statehouse!

Put-In-Bay, is last but definitely not least. It is a small village located on South Bass Island. There are wineries, caves, golf, ferry trips… a guaranteed good time whether you are coming for a relaxing trip or even a bachelorette party!

  1. I lived in Michigan for a year and never kept my promise to visit Ohio. When I do, I will visit the amusement park first. Hopefylly it’s ready for my 6yrs old super hero. He has no fear of heights.

  2. Being from Ohio I could go on and on about things to see. Hocking Hills great for a day or weekend trip if you really want to see it all! When you visit Hocking Hills you won’t believe you are in Ohio. Toledo Zoo is a really great zoo you can even zip line there! And you must visit Toledo Zoo in the winter months when they have the Lights up. Marblehead is a great place especially if you are in the area of Cedar Point and Put in Bay. Like I said I can go on and on! I hope you grow to love Ohio it really is great place to live!

  3. You hit most of the highlights that I normally recommend being from Ohio. Here’s a few others:

Toledo – I know someone above mentioned the Toledo Zoo, and that is great. If you’re looking to make a trip of it, I also recommend the Toledo Museum of Art, Imagination Station museum (formerly COSI), a Toledo Mudhens game, and the Toledo Gardens. If you’re looking for places to eat, Spaghetti Warehouse is a favorite along with Tony Packo’s.

Doug and I were married just outside of Toledo and spent our wedding weekend at Belamere Suites Hotel in Perrysburg. It’s in an odd location, but if you’re looking for a romantic getaway where you don’t leave the room – I highly recommend… šŸ˜‰

Finally, I have very fond memories of going to the Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum when I was growing up. It’s in Wapakoneta, which is only about an hour from Dayton. It may not be as cool as I remember (some things seem much cooler when you’re a child) but seeing as how it’s so close, might be worth checking out.
